Now as simple and humble as this sandwich may sound
And it can be an emotive issue!
Which cheese?
Sliced, or grated?
Type of bread?
Butter, or no butter?
Ketchup, or not?
Side order of crisps?
Whatever your preference, and, we do differ, it is a tradition that when we watch a football game, that is of national importance, then cheese and onion sandwiches are a must. A beer, or a glass of wine? Now that is another story.
I like a good strong farmhouse cheddar, Sheila’s preference is a milder sort Double Gloucester, or, Leicester. Bread is usually a good white but occasionally a multi-grain can be enjoyed by us both.
For me butter is the norm, but, as Sheila prefers the grated cheese and onion she goes “naked” (A thought perhaps not to dwell on!!)
I can go for a touch of ketchup sometimes, but not for Sheila, hot lime pickle is her addition, and our latest revelation Kimchi.
Crisps? Salt and vinegar is perfect for both of us, But NEVER, NEVER, NEVER prawn cocktail!!!!
Now to upgrade it to a gourmet meal good hot salty chips mmmmmm – that idea just hit me while I was writing this.
See it’s quite a complicated issue, so, perhaps not the humble sandwich after all, and we haven’t even started to toast, or, not to toast
